Disneyland Halloween Time 2017 Special Food – Part III of III
Here is the final part of our Disneyland Halloween Time 2017 Special Food post. We cannot believe Halloween Time is already coming to an end, with only a few days left. After many trips and lots of eating by all of us and our friends, we were still not able to check off everything on the Disneyland Halloween Time Treats and Eats Galore list. There is just so much to eat! Once again, Halloween special menu Items will be in orange, and regular items will be in purple.
This final part includes most of the food from Disney California Adventure, including Bacon Cheddar Ale Soup from Pacific Wharf Cafe, Thunder Dog and Lightning Pop from Award Wieners, Slow Burnin’ Mac & Cheese Cone and Red’s Apple Freeze from Cozy Cone Motel, Vanilla Orange Swirl Soft-serve Ice Cream Cone from Paradise Pier Ice Cream Company, Mandarin Orange Chicken and Thai Curry Coconut Chicken from Lucky Fortune Cookery, Dragon Breath Tacos and Obviously Nachos from Studio Catering Co, Cheeseburger Pizza, Vegetarian Pizza and Chicken Sun-dried Tomato Pesto from Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta, and finally, Pretzel Bites with Cheese Sauce from Troubadour Tavern in Disneyland.
Disney definitely outdid themselves though with this year’s long list of special menu items and all the decorations. It was so much fun to hunt down all the food and even more fun to taste them!
So here we go….
DISNEYLAND HALLOWEEN TIME 2017 SPECIAL FOOD
BACON CHEDDAR ALE SOUP IN A SOURDOUGH BREAD BOWL (Halloween Special)
Rating: 3.5/5
Price: $10.99
Location: Pacific Wharf Cafe | Pacific Wharf (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Sourdough bread bowl soup is the signature dish at Pacific Wharf Cafe. The Bacon Cheddar Ale Soup looks almost identical to the clam chowder soup, which is one of my favorites. This soup is thicker due to the cheddar cheese, and it is also a bit saltier. You can definitely taste the ale. Overall I liked the soup, but I would prefer it to be 10% less salty. The bread is excellent as always – the inside is super soft, moist and chewy, and the crust has a nice crunch. If you want a bread bowl, this is the place to get it, since they make it fresh right next door. Bread bowls at Disneyland are never this fresh and soft.
THUNDER DOG (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL)
Rating: 4/5
Price: $9.49
Location: Award Wieners | Hollywood Land (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Description: All-Beef Hot Dog on a Black Bun with Apple Slaw, Beet and Onion Slaw, Mustard Crema and GreenOnions served with Filmstrip Fries.
This hotdog is really good. The black bun I believe is rye bread. The slaws and condiments are tangy and acidic, which complement the savory all-beef frank very well. The filmstrip fries are probably one of the best fries I’ve ever had. They are cut thick, which gives it a very potato-y texture, yet they are super crispy on the outside. I am a fan.
LIGHTNING POP (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL)
Rating: 3/5
Price: $7.49
Location: Award Wieners | Hollywood Land (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Description: Barq’s Red Cream Soda Slush with a Thor’s hammer glow cube
This is a very fun drink. We couldn’t tell what the red flavor was…some kind of fruit punch maybe? It really just tastes sweet, too sweet. It is sprinkled with that same shimmery lemony-sugar that’s on the Milk & Hunny Funnel Cake. The Thor hammer looks like a straw but it is not. It is just a fun light-up decoration. However, this was the best part of the drink because it kept our baby entertained the entire day.
SLOW BURNIN’ MAC & CHEESE CONE (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL)
Rating: 5/5
Price: $8.99
Location: Cozy Cone Motel | Cars Land (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Description: Fresh-cooked Pasta with Spicy Red Pepper Cheese Sauce topped with crushed Chile-Cheese Puffs served in a Black Caldron Cone
Even though I love mac n cheese, I really didn’t have high expectations of this slow burnin’ mac & cheese. It just didn’t sound all that special to me besides being spicy. After tasting it, however, I have to say it is pretty darn good. The spicy red pepper cheese sauce almost tastes like buffalo sauce – definitely has a nice kick to it, and a bit tangy. The pasta is actually cooked perfectly – I was pleasantly surprised. For some reason, I expected it to be kind of mushy. The black caldron cone tastes similar to the black bun from Thunder Dog above – probably rye bread as well. This dish is spicier than I expected…I’d say about a 6/10. I’ve never had their regular mac n cheese. Now I will have to try.
RED’S APPLE FREEZE (REGULAR MENU)
Rating: 5/5
Price: $5.49
Location: Cozy Cone Motel | Cars Land (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Apple slush topped with I believe some kind of passion fruit foam. Very tasty. Perfect on a hot day, or any day.
VANILLA ORANGE SWIRL SOFT-SERVE ICE CREAM CONE (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL)
Rating: 4/5
Price: $8.99
Location: Paradise Pier Ice Cream Company | Paradise Pier (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
The texture is good and it tastes rich and creamy. Our only complaint is that you cannot taste the orange all that much.
MANDARIN ORANGE CHICKEN & THAI COCONUT CURRY CHICKEN (REGULAR MENU)
Rating: 4/5
Price: $11.99 Chicken / $11.99 Tofu / $12.99 Beef)
Location: Lucky Fortune Cookery | Pacific Wharf (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Description: Served with Steamed Rice, Seared Asian Vegetables and Mandarin Orange Sauce
This entree is semi-customizable. You have a choice of one of four sauces – Mandarin Orange, Spicy Korean, Thai Coconut Curry, or Teriyaki; and one of three meats – chicken, tofu, or beef. We always get the chicken so we cannot comment on tofu or beef. They don’t tell you but the Mandarin Orange sauce is a little bit spicy (4/10). It is not bad but nothing special. Thai coconut curry is our favorite. It is a bit sweet and not spicy at all. The rice is not the best – it is usually a little soggy. The veggies include bok choy, celery, onions, carrots, and sugar snap peas. I wouldn’t say it is the most filling of meals but the container holds more than it looks.
DRAGON BREATH TACOS (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL)
Rating: 3/5
Price: $10.99
Location: Studio Catering Co | Hollywood Land (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Description: Pork Belly Tacos, Korean BBQ Sauce, Kim Chi Slaw and Sriracha Aioli
The tacos are pretty tasty but too pricey – they are street taco sized but not street taco priced. I know this is Disneyland and it’s a Halloween Time special menu item, but they are still way over priced. You get one piece of pork belly in each taco. The flavor is good but pork belly is too fatty for me; I would have preferred pulled pork, but that’s just me. The kimchi slaw balances out the pork well. The Sriracha aioli is actually not that spicy (3/10).
OBVIOUSLY NACHOS (REGULAR MENU)
Rating: 4/5
Price: $7.49
Location: Studio Catering Co | Hollywood Land (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Description: Fried Blue Corn Tortillas with Red Pepper Cheese Sauce, Mojo Marinated Chicken, Chipotle Crema and Green Onions
These nachos are pretty good, and a much better value and more filling than the Dragon Breath Tacos above. They are also spicier than the tacos (6/10).
CHEESE BURGER PIZZA (HALLOWEEN SPECIAL)
Rating: 1/5
Price: $8.49 / Slice
Location: Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta | Paradise Pier (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Description: Ground Beef, Shredded Iceberg Lettuce, Tomato, American Cheese, Pickles
This pizza was terrible. It sort of tastes like a Big Mac, but worse. I enjoy a Big Mac once in a while, but I did not enjoy this pizza at all. All the toppings were a little soggy and blends together. The crust is the only good part. Don’t waste your money and stomach.
VEGETARIAN PIZZA (REGULAR MENU)
Rating: N/A
Price: $7.99 / Slice
Location: Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta | Paradise Pier (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Description: Tomato Sauce with Roasted Seasonal Vegetable topped with Mozzarella Cheese
This is the pizza we should have ordered. Next time.
CHICKEN SUN-DRIED TOMATO PESTO (REGULAR MENU)
Rating: 4/5
Price: $10.99
Location: Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta | Paradise Pier (Disney California Adventure)
AP Discount: Yes
Description: Campanelle Pasta tossed with Sun-dried Tomato Pesto Cream
This pasta normally comes topped with cheese but this plate was ordered without cheese. Consistently good dish. They freshly make it in front of you so it is easy to customize. I would ask for more sauce though.
PRETZEL BITES WITH CHEESE SAUCE (REGULAR MENU)
Rating: 3.5/5
Price: $5.59
Location: Troubadour Tavern | Fantasyland (Disneyland)
AP Discount: Yes
We bought this when we were waiting for the train at the Toontown Train Station. They are not as soft as the Mickey Pretzels. We rarely order these so they could just be a bit more dried out that day. I also thought 7 was not a lot.
And that concludes our Disneyland Halloween Time 2017 Special Food Series. Hope you enjoyed the photos and had a chance to try some of the food yourself!
